For my research this week I found a really cool website that relates to my PDP goal that I am trying to reach. This website is called, Kiddle. I found this website on twitter, which was tweeted by Kasey Bell. The tweet gave the link to the website, which is www.kiddle.co. This is a great source for students to use in or out of the classroom. It is set up just like Google, however, it is safe for kids and blocks websites, images and other things that are not safe for students to see. The information that is also given on this website is written specifically for kids to understand. This is a easy and safe way to include technology into the classroom. Students can use this when doing research for a project or paper. The information is accurate and it even includes pictures.
Standard 4 of the NC Teacher Standards says, Teachers facilitate learning for their students. This relates to the website that I included because it is a way for teachers to include technology into the classroom. This is a way to help students think critically by researching and creating a product from their research.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe spring break!
I really appreciate all that Google has to offer and think it is an awesome thing that they have created a kid friendly version of their search engine! This will be a great technology tool to incorporate in my future classroom. It will also help relieve some stress for the teacher because they will know that the students are safe exploring the internet using kiddle.com. Thanks for sharing this great resource and I plan on looking more into it and incorporating it into my future lessons!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Lace! I really like this blog. I did a blog on Google, but this is great that they have a kid version like, Kiddle. This is going to be very useful in our future classrooms, because students will have the freedom to search whatever they want, without us as teachers freaking out that they might Google something bad. I would hate having to restrict kids on what they search for projects, because researching helps with that deeper understanding.
ReplyDeleteLacey,
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome tech tool to add to your PDP! With this tool you won't have to worry that students may be searching for educational information that then links to inappropriate ads or unsafe. I also really like that this website shares kid friendly material that is easy for them to understand. This way they don't have to sift through all the Google results to find an article that they understand. Thanks for sharing!
I understand, Lacey! This is the crazy week of the semester when everything is seemingly due, but we are almost through it! Thanks so much for sharing what you have learned from your PDP. I have never heard of Kiddle before, but now, I will definitely look into it. What an excellent way to incorporate technology in the classroom, and I love that it is made for kids. Sometimes, it can be a little troubling to let students Google things because you never really know what might pop up so I absolutely love this idea! Again, thanks for sharing. I look forward to learning more about Kiddle in my research!
ReplyDeleteLacey, great blog! I enjoy reading your blog each week about SSED 307! Thanks for sharing the link to Kiddle, I had no idea that it existed and I looked it up and I love it! I completely agree with you about the flipped lesson being so time consuming! It takes a lot of time to plan it and it definitely pays of in the end because my flipped lesson has by far been one of the best lessons I have created! Great job! Have a wonderful time on your mission trip and stay safe!
